Senior Electric Engineer Overview Our client is one of the most efficient and well recognized public utilities in the nation having earned the prestigious designation as a Reliable Public Power Provider by the American Public Power as well as the “Gold” award for its water system from the American Water Works Association recognizing them as one of only 7 public water utilities to earn this distinction. They are proud of these accomplishments as a reflection of their efficiency and professionalism, but are even more proud to offer their reliable service to their community at some of the lowest rates in the nation. They provide generation and distribution of electric power produced locally at their multiple facilities that provide 600 Megawatts of power that are supplemented with 27 Megawatt of alternative energy sources, as well as the Best Tasting Water in the metro area, to their roughly 62,000 customers in 130 square miles of coverage. They seek a Senior Electric Engineer to join their team to provide design, support, and management services for their state of the art substations design team; provide leadership for projects and vendor management; operations support; and other services while keeping this utility compliant and ready for the future. This community is one of the faster growing communities in the Midwest and their utility demand is challenged accordingly. The department’s leaders have retirement eligibility in the forseeable future meaning outstanding promotional opportunities for the right Sr. Electric Engineer candidate. This position is located in a major metropolitan area in the Midwest that offers a wide variety of attractive housing options; top ranked high schools; a broad choice of recreational, shopping, cultural, arts, major league sports activities; and a robust and growing business community, all in the immediate area of the required community residency. Position Reporting to the Director Electric Engineering, this Senior Electric Engineer (Sr EE) will be responsible for the building and re-building of the utility’s electric systems including: development of cost effective plans and designs of substations, electrical generating facilities and water processing and pumping facilities; manage the planning, budgeting, contracting for the construction and implementation of major projects; ensure the reliability and efficiency of existing systems; review and submit capital budget by project of related material and labor costs, along with time schedule for development/repair; analyze and report information to management; and assure his/her responsibilities are done in compliance with regard to company policy, Federal, State, and other regulatory bodies; and ensure an effective employee climate that promotes productivity, safety and quality. Key challenges awaiting the successful candidate include: Meet currently active construction project schedules for new substations and distribution system upgrades; lead planning, design, and execution of multiple projects with the goal of replacing 3 distribution networks with one state-of –the-art transmission and distribution system; effectively manage the progress of the intelligent switching system to a fully automated system; work with Ultra High Speed Fiber Optic installation to ensure project deliverables’ integrity and reliability; and building the plans, budgets, and knowledgeable/experienced engineering team to re-build the utility systems of the future. Requirements Requires BS degree in EE and 5 years in distribution system and substation design and construction along with an understanding of electrical transmission and distribution systems. A PE License is required. Generally, this position requires good oral and written communications skills, proactive approach to problem solving, and the ability to lead projects (PMP is a plus) and develop effective teams.
